A week ago, my best friend and I went gallivanting throughout much of the UK (with a bonus weekend in Paris) as a graduation trip for her completion of medical school. We were able to cross a few things off the bucket list, such as a trip to Highclere Castle (the real Downton Abbey), as well as all the shopping and sightseeing we could squeeze in to a week. (Of course we were hoping for a Royal Baby sighting while we were there, but alas we are still on the #greatkatewait for Cambridge Baby #3.)
With the weather across the pond significantly better than the late snow the DC area received, I was able to pull out a few of my tried and true spring replicate pieces to wear on our various adventures.
Replikate #1- The J.Crew Tippi Sweater
I have been wearing J.Crew since I was around 16 years old (I'm 30 now!) and their Tippi sweaters have been staples in my closet for years. I was so excited to see Kate wear one for a Heads Together promotion she did in 2016. This is a classic piece that transitions well between seasons and is very timeless in style (breton stripes, 3/4 sleeves, button detailing, etc.). I wore it on our first day in Paris and obviously had to make a certain stop at the Musee d'Orsay for a photo...
Replikate #2- The Temperley Cypre Frill Top
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to Highclere Castle via Oxford and Bampton (the location where the Downton Village was filmed in the TV series). Oxford is one of my absolute favorite places in the world, so any trip to the UK is incomplete without a stop to take in the beauty of the colleges. I wore my Cypre Frill Top (last featured in a previous post here) with my Downtown Field Jacket from J.Crew during a few hours of wind, but it worked fabulously as a layering top.
Highclere was wonderful- we arrived late in the afternoon on a Friday, so there were no major tour groups interfering with our ability to view the rooms and grounds. I loved the juxtaposition of the historic furnishings straight out of the earlier centuries (Napoleon's desk!!!) mixed with modern elements of a normal family home (John Grisham novels on the end tables!)- it truly felt like we were just visiting a friend for tea instead of the fictional Earl of Grantham's estate. The weather even held out, making for a most magical afternoon!
Replikate #3- The Hobbs Rosie Top
I received this in the mail just before I left on the trip, so naturally it had to come along! I was lucky enough to score one of the most recent Replikates, and on sale nonetheless! The top is navy blue with a ditsy floral print in cream and green with a highly flattering square neckline and slitted sleeves. It paired nicely with some black pants for a trip to Bicester Village outlets in Oxfordshire. Though I didn't do a great deal of damage, there were definitely a few high end items that were tempting.
Replikate #4- The Somerset by Temperley Bow Blouse
This blouse is one of my all-time favorite Replikate pieces. It had been sitting in my closet awaiting warm weather for months and months, so it had to come along, of course. The detailing is what really makes the top- a tiny dotted print, lace detailing, and the fabulous bow combine for the most perfect of circumstances in a ladylike blouse. I paired it with a Smythe Les Vestes Duchess blazer and wore it dashing about London.
It is hard now to return to reality after such an amazing week, but I did bring a few new Repli-pieces back to integrate into my future wardrobe. Stay tuned for a shopping post, coming soon!
